On Thursday, all 19 of us took a two-mile cruise on the Wailua River.We learned more about the history of Kauai and even got to try the hula. 
We stopped at the Fern Grotto, which has been called a "geological wonder." Ferns actually grow upside down from the roof of the grotto. It was an absolutely amazing place! The short walk up to the grotto is like being in a rain forest. The lush gardens and flowers are so gorgeous. Above you can see some of the vegetation with the fern on the right side.

After our cruise, we went to Smith's Tropical Paradise for a luau. It is so beautiful there. We boarded this tram so we could see the 30 acre botanical and cultural garden. We saw lots of fruit trees, flowers, cultural items, and streams. It is so serene and peaceful there.
The kids next to the "Aki Aki Head." It reminds us of Night at the Museum.

These peacocks roam the gardens. So pretty!
Before the luau we got to see them take the kalua pig out of the oven in the ground. It cooks in there for hours and is so tender! It looks a bit crazy though.
I bought this picture they took of all of us at the luau.
We loved the all-you-can-eat luau. We had plenty to eat. We even tried poi, but didn't love it.

After the luau we saw a show full of dancing and music. It even had a pretend volcano. It was interesting to learn the song and dance of many different cultures. We were all tired from our long and exciting day.

I'm still amazed that we did all this. Thank you so much for documenting it all It will be especially good for the younger ones to help them retain memories of times that might otherwise be hard to recall when they grow older. I hope that we all take the oportunity to view these posts from time to time, to help us all remember how wonderful it is for all of us to be together. And for many more special times to come.
